About me and what I do…
Nice to meet you! I’m Haruna and I’m a certified registered nurse in both Japan and the US. After graduating from Nursing School I worked in a surgical ward at Tokyo University Hospital and later furthered my studies in Vancouver, Canada. After working as a medical officer on Princess Cruises I received my US Registered Nursing certification in the state of Texas. In addition to running healthtomo I currently work as a freelance medical interpreter and nurse.
In my private life, I am the mother of 3 children and have been living in Yokohama for the last 10 years. When I first moved here, I discovered that finding a doctor for myself and my family was not easy despite being a native Japanese speaker. I realized that non-Japanese speakers would likely have an even harder time given the limited resources for international residents in Japan. Though Japan offers top notch medical care it is not easily accessible for those who do not speak the language.
My goal in starting healthtomo was to help individuals and families living in Japan have stress free access to excellent medical care just like locals. We are here to help end-to-end from searching for the best clinics, assisting with securing appointments and even complex multi-visit healthcare needs and consulting. We’re here to provide reliable and friendly support in navigating all your healthcare needs.
ヘルストモへようこそ。私は大学の看護学部を卒業後、東大病院外科病棟、東京臨海病院、国際親善病院の救急外来やトラベルクリニック新横浜など、国内の様々な病院で看護師として経験を積んできました。カナダのバンクーバーで看護留学をしたのちに、ダイアモンドプリンセスなどアメリカのクルーズ船で他国籍の医療チームと共に看護師として従事しました。その後、アメリカの正看護師免許を取得し、現在はフリーランスとしてJICAの発展途上国への医療支援プロジェクトで医療通訳にも従事しています。
プライベートでは、結婚後から横浜に住み始め、３人の子育てをしながら、日本人でも慣れない土地でかかりつけ医を探すことに苦労しました。横浜という土地柄、外国人の方々から病院探しの依頼や通訳を頼まれることも多く、外国人の方々には言葉の壁により、日々の生活ではもっと大変なことや不安なこともあるのだろうと考え始めました。言葉の壁を乗り越え、日本の素晴らしい医療を届ける手助けをしたいという思いで会社を設立しました。ヘルストモを通じて、言語や文化の違いを理解した上で、外国人の方々の病院探し等のお手伝いや、地域の医療関係者との橋渡しをし、不安の軽減に少しでもお役に立てれば幸いです。
